Self Care

The practice promotes self-care for minor conditions and self-limiting illness.  Medicines for pain relief and minor illness are widely available from local pharmacies and supermarkets.  In line with guidance from the NI department of Health the practice will no longer prescribe medicines that can be purchased over the counter for the following indications.

  • Aches and pains (mild) e.g. headache, occasional migraine, teething 
  • Athlete's foot
  • Cold sores
  • Colic 
  • Coughs, colds and sore throats 
  • Diarrhoea (occasional) or constipation 
  • Ear wax
  • Fungal nail infections 
  • Haemorrhoids (piles)
  • Hayfever and allergies 
  • Head lice
  • Indigestion and heartburn (mild) 
  • Infant feeding 
  • Nappy rash 
  • Oral health 
  • Sunscreen
  • Threadworms 
  • Vaginal thrush 
  • Vitamins and minerals
